Jim Katapodis was proud to participate in the recent Taste of Huntington Beach event. The annual Taste of Huntington Beach is a charity fundraiser presented by the Huntington Beach Restaurant Association in partnership with the Friends of the Childrens Library.

All proceeds from this event benefit the Huntington Beach Childrens Library helping to support a variety of educational and informative activities for children in the Huntington Beach community such as plays, musical performances, ballets, magic shows, an Authors Festival, a Festival of Folktales, and much more. See the latest activities at the Huntington Beach Children’s Library.

Guests at the Taste of Huntington Beach were treated to an afternoon of food and fun. Local restaurants and other eateries were on hand with tastes of delicious food. Wine and beer samples were provided by premium wineries and craft breweries. Local businesses provided silent auction baskets. The Tijuana Dogs provided the music.

As Chairman of the Huntington Beach 9/11 Memorial Committee, Jim Katapodis is pleased to announce that a design has been chosen. Six artists submitted proposals for the Huntington Beach 9/11 Memorial. The winning design was created by Patrick Vogel, a Long Beach artist. Vogel’s design features a marble base with two stainless steel towers and will incorporate two girders from the New York World Trade Center wreckage. The words “We Will Never Forget” will be etched along the base of the memorial.

The 9/11 Memorial will be placed outside the Huntington Beach City Hall building. The plan is for the 9/11 Memorial to be completed in time for dedication on September 11, 2013.

The budget for the Huntington Beach 9/11 Memorial is expected to be about $150,000 and is to be funded entirely by private donations. No City funds will be used. The Huntington Beach Police Officer’s Association and the Huntington Beach Firefighter’s Association have been spearheading a fundraising drive. Construction will begin once 80% of the funds have been collected.

To submit a donation to the Huntington Beach 9/11 Memorial, please make checks payable to: “HBPOF 9/11 Memorial Fund” and mail them to: P.O. Box 896, Huntington Beach, CA, 92648. For more information call (714) 842-8851.
